Professional Engineer Licensing Board Approvals

This course is applicable for Professional Engineers in all states with the exception of New York (New York does not permit online classes for continuing education).  There are four Professional Engineer state licensing boards which approve continuing education providers and/or courses. Each of these four states has approved our organization and/or courses and issued the following registration numbers.

Course Description:

This course is designed to provide Professional Engineers with a thorough understanding of the OSHA requirements for Fall Protection by identifying the most common fall hazards and discussing the proper OSHA procedures for implementing safety systems, including use of guardrails, safety net systems, personal fall arrest systems and ladder safety to prevent as many accidents as possible.  The licensee will learn how to develop a safe and healthy jobsite by implementing training programs on construction sites and the importance of an emergency response plan.

 

Course Learning Objectives:

1.      To provide the licensee with a thorough understanding of the purpose of OSHA and the requirements for Fall Protection.

2.       To become familiar with and be able to identify the most common fall hazards.

3.       To discuss the proper OSHA procedures for implementing safety systems, including when and how each system should be used to help prevent as many accidents as possible.

4.       Explore how to develop a safe and healthy jobsite by implementing training programs on job sites and understanding the importance of an emergency response plan.

 

Course Outline:

Section 1 – Introduction- Introduce the Purpose of OSHA; Defines OSHA Standard for Protection; Fall Protection Coverage; Requirements of the Standard

Section 2- Identifying Fall Hazards- Unprotected sides, wall openings, & floor holes; Improper Scaffold Construction; Unguarded Protruding Steel Rebar; Misuse of portable ladders

Learning Exercise 1

Section 3- Safety Systems-   Personal Fall Arrest Systems; Personal Fall Restraint Systems; Safety Monitoring System; Protecting Workers from falling objects

Learning Exercise 2

Section 4- Emergency Response- Developing an Emergency Response Plan; what to do in an Emergency; Record Keeping; Fall Protection Tips; Jobsite Training and Education;          Inspecting Equipment; State Programs

Method of Presentation:  This is an online course that consists of collegiate-style lectures that have been professionally narrated by subject matter experts, animated with relevant graphics and media, and converted to Flash for web delivery to provide licensees with a first-rate learning experience.

 

Evaluation Method:

Licensees will be evaluated on their comprehension of the material covered by administering three (3) brief learning exercises, interspersed throughout the course, upon which successful completion of each  is required before advancement to the next section is allowed or course credit is earned.  If the licensing board requires the licensee to pass a final examination, course credit will not be earned until the final exam has been completed to the required proficiency level.

Presenter Bio:

This material is presented by subject matter expert Roy Terepka.  Roy graduated from the University of Central Florida with a Bachelor's Degree in Education in 1976.  In 1993 he became a Florida Certified Building Contractor and over the past 30 years he has owned multiple corporations specializing in design and construction. Roy is a "Certified Remodeler", a designation by NARI, and has extensive experience in business administration and project leadership.
