This course is designed to provide Construction Professionals a thorough understanding of General Services Administration and how it is committed to incorporating principles of sustainable design and energy efficiency into its building projects. This course details the content of Sustainability Matters presented by the General Services Administration (GSA) and shows how sustainable design seeks to reduce negative impacts on the environment, and the health and comfort of building occupants, thereby improving building performance. Part 2 of this course examines how energy efficiency is at the heart of GSA’s drive for sustainability by discussing various government requirements and executive orders, and outlining various money-saving methods. GSA has set the standard for sustainable workplaces by reducing emission of greenhouse gases, curtailing energy costs and reducing our dependence on foreign energy sources. This course will cover the importance of site design, solar strategies, and water management in an effort to make less of an environmental impact and will discuss a number of essential design elements, such as daylighting, views and ergonomics, and how they can reduce costs and enhance work performance.
