Details

This course is designed to introduce contractors to basic principles of sustainable design within the context of design and construction, including site design, energy supply, interior environmental quality, and water management. It will examine the design strategies and construction features needed for climate-ready structures that will able to withstand various environmental hazards associated with increased global temperatures and ocean levels. We will also discuss unfolding trends in the construction industry and the integration of robotics and artificial intelligence into the fabric of our current building framework and support sustainability goals. Contractors will learn the benefits of using sensors and automated controls in building energy systems to create integrated “smart buildings” that offer greater user comfort and increased energy efficiency in building operations. Collaborative robotics, 3D printing, and the use of drones all have the potential to impact the future economy and labor opportunities of the construction industry, and increased automation offers both risk and reward for construction businesses and laborers.
