This course is designed to provide Construction Professionals with a thorough understanding of how to efficiently maintain and improve motor and drive systems by outlining the differences between a systems approach and a components approach. This course details the content of the sourcebook for Improving Motor & Drive Systems, which was authored and developed by the United States Department of Energy. Part 1 of this course covers the advantages of a system approach versus a components approach in the repair and maintenance of motors; compares and contrasts the application of Direct Current and Alternating Current motors; discusses the drawbacks of both oversized and undersized motors; and outlines different types of motors and their advantages and disadvantages as well as the characteristics of motors.
