MA. Aging In Place 1

This course is designed to provide construction professionals with a thorough understanding of accessibility guidelines as outlined by the Building Code, to aid in designing and retrofitting homes to age in place; a recent trend of elderly home-owners to remain in their homes rather than moving to adult-care facilities. The design and retrofit techniques described encompass Universal Design concepts to create usable spaces for all users. Part I of the course covers the Aging in Place trend and its importance to construction professionals, defines important terms related to accessibility and universal design, outlines requirements for accessible walkways and thresholds, entry improvements, and interior mobility including doorway and hallway design.
