NC - Aging In Place

This course is designed to provide licensed contractors with a thorough understanding of accessibility guidelines, to aid in designing and retrofitting residential homes for “Aging in Place” and “Universal Design”; a movement that allows elderly and disabled home-owners to remain independently in their homes in opposition to moving to an adult-care facility.  The design and retrofit techniques described can create livable spaces for all users, with emphasis on main entries, interior and exterior circulation, and bathroom and kitchen design. Individual client assessments, needs and habits are highlighted as key components for promoting dignity and independence in performing daily activities. Additionally, we will briefly discuss the impacts and growth in aging in place trends in the construction and real estate markets as an effect of the covid-19 pandemic.
