This course is designed to provide engineers a thorough understanding of how public-private partnerships, between the United States Department of Energy and private companies, are completely transforming United States manufacturing, thereby affecting both industry and the economy. The commercialized technologies described in Part 2 of the course do not focus on a single industry, rather each project described has a crosscutting focus. In other words, each of these projects are affecting several different industries. The technologies discussed are impacting industries associated with the following: air systems, auxiliary equipment, materials, forging and heat treating, combustion, the distribution of energy, and sensors and process control.
